I think the home fillers should have set a lower target preasure for the home units, like 1,000 to 2,000psi, enough to get you to and from work and around town bit not full pressure.
Home filling might not be suitable for everybody due to access to a natural gas pipeline or a dedicated carport, so it wouldn't render fuel stations accessible to the public a redundant thing.

When it comes to home filling, I guess a lower-pressure setup would make most people be willing to refuel at a regular gas station anyway...
