The Isuzu 4FB1 engine is quite underrated, yet it's as good as or eventually better than a Volkswagen engine of the same era. IIRC it had also been used on some export-bound versions of the Brazilian equivalent to the Chevrolet Cavalier. There was also the 4FC1 which BTW shares the same bore and stroke of the current straight-6 turbodiesel fitted to the Chevrolet and GMC half-ton trucks.
