That sounds likely, but only given a society of sufficient technology.

A few hundred years ago where it took all of one's time to merely survive, with only a tiny bit of excess able to be produced, it might have made sense to have slaves. As long as their production exceeds consumption, an excess is generated.

I'm fairly confident that's why slavery today is only practiced in relatively poorer areas.

As a tangent, I expect we will be modifying our moral disposition via genetic engineering at some point in the near future. If the sociopath gene(s) can be located, many people might choose to exclude those from their offspring, for instance.
