Burning corn cobs after eating the corn is not unusual. When it comes to burning the grain as a heating fuel, I have never seen it, even though toasting it to use as a coffee substitute used to be quite common in Pernambuco. I remember seeing "café de milho" at a roadside restaurante when my maternal grandfather took me to know the city where he was born.
