'death-ray'
Something which has stuck with me:
The day I enlisted, I arrived early in North Hollywood, and killed some time at an all-night diner. The diner had an Amana 'RADAR RANGE', the first microwave oven I'd ever seen.
Years later, after coming back from overseas, I was dispatched to refuel a ground power unit at a remote radar site, north of the highway leading to Boron, California ( where Pancho Barnes lived out her life after the fire destroyed her 'Happy-Bottom Riding Club', as it was known.
At the radar facility I brought up the microwave oven to the technician working with me. He mentioned that the out-going beam strength their equipment was capable of 'frying' unlucky birds inflight, as their flight path intersected the radiation.
This is the only first-order reality experience I've ever had with respect to a so-called 'death -ray.'
