If the house burns down and my main drive, it's backup and the backup on the NAS are all in that house then those backups would have been in vain.

I thought about that solution too, but it's not feasible given the 5 mbps upload constraints of most internet plans and data caps.
I backup my RAID 1 to a USB drive and store it in a fire safe. Periodically I'll update the alternate backup at my parents house.
If anything's taking out all those locations, I've got bigger problems than lost photos.
