I would put the NAS in a different house with someone we trust. Possibly I'd put it in a different town or even a different state. I could also host a NAS here for someone in the family.
If the house burns down and my main drive, it's backup and the backup on the NAS are all in that house then those backups would have been in vain.
I come across free computers all the time too.

I thought about that solution too, but it's not feasible given the 5 mbps upload constraints of most internet plans and data caps.
I backup my RAID 1 to a USB drive and store it in a fire safe. Periodically I'll update the alternate backup at my parents house.
If anything's taking out all those locations, I've got bigger problems than lost photos.

Is stupidity going that far? Why not a Hispanic or Asian National Anthem instead?

I don't follow Sportball, so I don't know which report is closer to true.

I was an amateur first responder after the earthquake and later organized distribution of supplies to the area. We will never know how many perished but i guesstimate between a quarter to half a million.
Kocaeli is far away from the earthquake and was not affected.

27 post thread with no mention of 'earthquake' or prior post on your part. Wrong thread?
Sounds like it's a problem: duckduckgo.com/?q=Kocaeli&iar=news&ia=news. Here's how it is seen over here:

Readers respond: Earthquake toll partly a manmade disaster
Oregonian | 3 days ago
In 1999, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Kocaeli Province of Turkey, killing more than 17,000 people. It happened again when the Van earthquakes struck in eastern Turkey in 2011. These disasters prompted changes in Turkey's building codes that contractors,

I see that you are in Istanbul [or Kocaeli]. If you have any influence there, talk up Ceramic Houses.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceramic_house
Quote:
Ceramic houses are buildings made of an earth mixture which is high in clay, and fired to become ceramic. The process of building and firing such houses was developed by Iranian architect Nader Khalili in the late 1970s; he named it Geltaftan. "Gel" means "clay" and "taftan" means "firing, baking, and weaving clay" in Persian language. Khalili's research into creating ceramic houses was strongly based on the idea that permanent, water-resistant, and earthquake-resistant houses could be built with the implementation of the four elements: earth and water to build the forms, and fire and air to finish them. His impassioned work led to a few small scale projects in Iran, including the Javadabad Elementary School, and the Ghaled Mofid restoration project. Aside from Khalili's own documented work, there seems to be little widespread research on ceramic houses.
|
Khalili's energy budget for one unreinforced clay building was one drum of kerosene. He move on from this to other methods based on sandbags and barbed wire.
One problem with this is if a firing fails, it's hard to bury the result. I think there is opportunity to engineer a tilt-up or modular tile solutons.
