The bumper on the front allows it to store upright. As soon as they touch ground, the lever arm extends by about that much.
There are retaining pins for the handles but I don't use them. They don't come out under load and thy slip out and lay across the frame when it's in storage. And sometimes when I'm filling it and the handle is in the way.

I once was driving, and it begun to rain... bits of rubber. Then occasional large chunks struck my car. A semi a fair distance ahead had a tread coming apart.
Only time I saw how all those treads come to litter our roadways.
