Problem is that classes have to be taught to the lowest common denominator, because "no child left behind". Also, "no child to excel".
This is exactly what most idiots want these days though, because that's precisely what equity is. You can't make a dumb kid bright, but you can make a bright kid dumb.

And nowadays, unfortunately, most teachers seem to be those idiots who are frustrated in life because they couldn't go to the college they intended, and became teachers just to avoid getting a blue-collar job. Some if not most of my former teachers were that bad. And for such creatures, it's easier to turn a bright kid into a mediocre to say the least, than to do something beneficial to the seemingly dumb kids.
