Not sure if now, but years ago Polish law said that a "cargo" vehicle could only be registered for use with private small companies if it could fit a 70cm (later 80cm) cube inside the cargo area. Or something...
It was a law to keep people from registering passenger cars, often luxurious, as "company cargo vehicles" and getting tax incentives. Or something...
So this is an example of a dimension requirement which might influence the shape of vehicle offered by manufacturers.
