Maintenance was often pointed out to be easier than cars with water-cooled engines, either the American landyachts which used to be mainstream even in Brazil or some random other European compacts such as the Ford Anglia.

Some folks I talk to eventually dislike the Beetle, saying it's too crude or old, while many others who think other cars are better suited to modern driving conditions still recognise the historical significance of the Beetle in Brazil and how it may remain better suited to some harsh conditions than any modern econobox.

So, do you like, dislike, or don't really care about Beetles?

Maybe some folks who had hippie parents got to dislike the Beetle because it was often pointed out as a hippie stereotype, and their differences with their hippie parents may have influenced their dislike for the Beetle.
