Some folks I talk to eventually dislike the Beetle, saying it's too crude or old, while many others who think other cars are better suited to modern driving conditions still recognise the historical significance of the Beetle in Brazil and how it may remain better suited to some harsh conditions than any modern econobox.

I was unbiased either way until I was given one, and even then it took a couple years of ownership to sway my opinion

I know people who parents were all hippy dippy as George Carlin would say that do not like bugs at all

Maybe some folks who had hippie parents got to dislike the Beetle because it was often pointed out as a hippie stereotype, and their differences with their hippie parents may have influenced their dislike for the Beetle.
