These little engines were being ran pretty much wide open throttle all the time so don't expect the same on a full size car engine.

Just like good old 2-strokes prior to reed induction valves and exhaust "power valves" became mainstream on motorcycles, those stationary engines (even a 4-stroke which seems to be the only ones easily available by now) are set to a much narrow RPM band, compromising too much the efficiency when they're operating for an extended period in other RPM band.
