Take care. The closed hatch stiffens the rear body. If you use external hinges forward of the hatch, a four-bar linkage could lift it with the hatch. Four-bars give a lot of latitude on how they move.

The biggest problem I see is it would enforce straight sides. If you split it and take 3 inches out of the front, you could take 6-9 inches out of the back.

If you take two patches out of the curves edges no longer than you need, and use curved edges to join it back together, you could approximate a compound curve.

Then it's down to pie cuts and shrinkers.
