In the USA, Lexan ( polycarbonate ) is approved by the Department of Transportation for commercial bus windshields, which implies that at some thickness threshold that, it's robust enough for 4-seasons performance.
I would think that 1/8th-inch ( 3mm ) material would be adequate.
