Looking online, they seem to have infrastructure that better integrates cycling into the road mix. Meanwhile in the west, we take anything that is human-powered and jam electric motors into it. Then we try and scramble to make it work in a car-based country. For the most part, it’s barely practical. How would we get anywhere without something to do the work for us?
I have seen more bicycles with 2-stroke gasser engines recently, yet it's just a way to circumvent the need for a motorcycle license, which will become required soon and most likely put an end to those makeshifts...

When I see automated driving, I lose a lot of hope.
My father is a retired air traffic controller, and I lived close to airfields from when I was born until I was 12y.o., and one of my uncles still works as an aircraft mechanic. I even studied aircraft maintenance BTW. I don't believe automated driving to become the one-size-fits-all it's often portrayed by the media. Most likely it will only be effective in a handful of expressways with a very strictly controlled environment, and even for that I'm not holding my breath...

And that’s not even taking into account the social aspect of it. You ever try and drive a vehicle that isn’t just a lifted truck or dodge caravan? Small town people have a lot of issues with that! Thoughtcrime!
Living in a country where the VW Beetle used to be a best-seller, and many econoboxes are still leading the sales rankings, sometimes I may sound too pessimistic whenever I say motorcycles with side-cars could be taken more seriously

On the subject of rusty cars and the loss of possessions…yeah. I have 5 Civics, a scooter, a CBR125R, a dune buggy, and a bicycle problem. It’s cool to have, but I’m 22. Having all of that is like chaining a cast iron ball of maintenance and responsibility to my leg.
What scooter? And is the CBR125 a grey import??? How many of your Civics are actually running? BTW when I was a kid I used to see a dune buggy with a fiberglass roof and gullwing doors, which was daily-driven by its owner at that time...

I don’t need this many vehicles, it’s pretty stupid actually. Still less than $10,000 spent, so there’s that.
For that total cost, I would be tempted to also do so. Yet most likely I would consider a campervan instead of 5 Civics
