GM had a massive battery recall on the Bolt due to fires. 2 defects when paired would case a cell to catch fire and then ignite the rest of the pack.

My point is that a system that requires perfection for safety is engineered incorrectly. The battery pack should be constructed such that a cell fire is contained.

Likewise, a transport ship should be constructed in such a way that a single vehicle fire will be contained.

Systems that require perfection from hundreds of thousands of units are doomed to catastrophic failure periodically.
