Tesla is already using cobalt-free LFP batteries in half of its new ...
22 Apr 2022 Tesla confirmed that nearly half of all its vehicles produced last quarter are already using cobalt-free iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. The information also gives us an interesting insight...
Half the Teslas.

I keep on attempting to point out it's the electrolyte thats flammable. Some of the lithium may be in a reactive pure state but until it mixes with water and starts oxidizing faster than the mass radiates heat, it for lack of a better term, RUSTS.kinda the process of all batteries

Dendrites. They short circuit and ignite the electrolyte.

GM had a massive battery recall on the Bolt due to fires. 2 defects when paired would case a cell to catch fire and then ignite the rest of the pack.

My point is that a system that requires perfection for safety is engineered incorrectly. The battery pack should be constructed such that a cell fire is contained.

Likewise, a transport ship should be constructed in such a way that a single vehicle fire will be contained.

Systems that require perfection from hundreds of thousands of units are doomed to catastrophic failure periodically.

Somebody once cut Rose Granite (8 on the Moh's scale) to a dimensional accuracy that can't be captured with lazer scans. They are having to move to MRIs. The varying radii are in discrete steps that are algorithmically related.

Who kknows what is possible. Five nines is just a start.

"A man's got to know his limitations." -- Clint Eastwood

Of particular interest to me is SkyBAAM. I was describing such a system to others while all the while they were instantiating it. They talk about a 100ft build area, but show a scale model of the Roman Colluseum as an example.. They show computer controlled steel cables. I imagined ropes with crews that coordinate their movement with sea shanties.

And the 3D printing mix lifted by a wind-powered Olds Elevator.

Summary of the Olds Elevator
Olds Elevator Design and Operating Characteristics The basic principle of the Olds Elevator is very simple, however it is a whole new science opening up new possibilities. The design has only one moving part in contact with the bulk material, a tubular casing with attached in-feed scoops that rotates

Here's the SkyBAAM picture from that time stamp:

Rather than the crane, I considered a mast and yard arms.

I miss Jack Rickard. I didn't know that EVTV survives him.

This is a good retelling of the tale, from the days when he made his money in Boardwatch, they mention the DC-3, etc.

The mural, IMHO OTOH is sub-par. If you know Springfield [OR] you know the Ken Kesey, The Simpsons and the Oregon Trail murals. All better.

He doesn't know color theory (purple, purple, purple, yellow! doesn't read from a distance) and they could have brought in someone who can render cars. Those are just bad.

I also miss the traditional intro drone flight.

Agree it's not a great mural. Miss the guy too, though I didn't regularly watch.

Reminds me that I miss Sean Connery. Keep wondering who will be next. Clint Eastwood seems due. Pretty soon all the famous people will be dead and we'll be left with influencers.

Curiously, the artist laid down text in each area a car was to be and overpainted it. Example. At one point in time there appears to be a reptilian eyeball that gets overpainted.

Speaking of influencers,
