Engineered roofing trusses are the worst.
In the 1980s I was building clear-span 40ft shells to 1/32" tolerance, deliverable in a box van. In the 2010s I was an estimator for a roofing truss company. They liked telescoping gables and complex ridgelines. The same floor plan would sell for more if the roof was more complicated. The delivery truck had to beware sharp corners and bridges.
And the gable ends are a structural point of failure from wind loads.
