Car rentals are now $300 a week with my corporate code. We just switched from National to Hertz about 2 months ago - National was $260 a week. In 25 years I've never paid full price for a rental car. Before I worked at a company with a good discount I just searched sites like the one below and used codes I found. I've never once been asked to prove I actually work for the company when I used a corporate discount code.

When we visit family in Michigan we can borrow a car from either of our parents. If we fly into Flint we generally do. If we fly into Detroit we rent a car because the airport is a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive depending on traffic. It isn't right to expect our parents (who are in their late 70's) to drive 8 to 10 hours just to shuttle us back and forth to the airport.

More important than saving money - I simply don't have an extra 4 days of vacation to burn for a trip east. Vacation days are rare and precious - except for 2020 I've never had enough. If a trip requires more than 1 day driving each way - I'm flying. I can't see wasting 1/2 my vacation days in a car.
