We're susceptible to conflate feeling and fact. As they say, we decide first and reason later.
Feeling is an equal partner to reason, because it informs the value hierarchy. When one feels, it's necessary to temper it by the process of reason. In other words, "listen to your heart" is nonsense pushed by Disney to make slaves of us. The easiest thing to do is listen to the heart, requires nothing, meanwhile justifies absolutely anything, because it assumes passion is pure.
We talk past one another when we don't define the feeling (value hierarchy).
