I'm sure Toyota expects Prius sales to remain relatively low as they add more and more hybrids to their lineup. The Corolla Cross is just another of their 2 dozen hybrid offerings.
Even the newly redesigned Prius is only selling at a yearly rate of 55,000 a year. That is down from a peak of 230,000 when the Prius was basically Toyota's only hybrid in the USA except for the Highlander.
Toyota hybrid sales were up 80% in 1Q2024. Part of that is good sales in 2024 and part is really poor sales in 2023 that make a YoY number look better than it really is.
