GDI engines, especially in hybrids load up the oil with gas. Plus even with fuel contamination is within acceptable levels something in side the 2L nu engine shears down the oil causing the 5w-20 to lose viscosity.
As a countermeasure I was filling with 5w-20 just past the low mark when I changed the oil then slowly filling up to the full mark with 20w-50. I would start adding oil at around 1,000miles and be all in by 4,000 miles. That kept the oil viscosity within spec for a "20 weight" oil.
