As a countermeasure I was filling with 5w-20 just past the low mark when I changed the oil then slowly filling up to the full mark with 20w-50. I would start adding oil at around 1,000miles and be all in by 4,000 miles. That kept the oil viscosity within spec for a "20 weight" oil.
I put 5w-30 in my car for the summer as an experiment. It feels like the engine is smoother and more stable versus the 0w-20 I’ve been using it’s whole life
