I disliked it because obfuscating the issue with evasive terminology is the opposite of a steel-man. That said, he was absolutely directionally correct with a pragmatic approach to the issue.
The Issue is the conditions with which it is legal to terminate human life. A steel man argument would define those conditions in a convincing manner. For that reason, the reframe totally fails.
That said, finding the nearest common ground is the most necessary part of persuasion, and leveraging obfuscating language can help with that. I'm just not the type of person to use imprecise language over precise just to dupe weaker minds to see things as I do.
The logic of getting decision making out of the federal government and distributing to local as an example of the opposite of dictatorship is spot on though. If only the other 89% of federal government that is inappropriate to be handled at that level would also follow suit. Most of the 3-letter agencies consume money and deliver nothing, or worse.
