Solipsism
Solipsism is the philosophical idea that only one's mind is sure to exist. As an epistemological position, solipsism holds that knowledge of anything outside one's own mind is unsure; the external world and other minds cannot be known and might not exist outside the mind. Wikipedia
Once you slip into Solopsism, other people's thought can be anything you want.

Sounds like a good reason to avoid anything but Ecomodder and Youtube. Or maybe just commenting elsewhere.

Anyways, Golden Age....

According to You Won’t Believe It! SpaceX Starship 6 Update?t=155 We're two weeks from SpaceX attempting to catch both the booster and the Starship. Big implications for Starlink speed and efficiency.

Gwynne Shotwell continues to deliver, but according to Elon Musk if they're not failing they're not innovating fast enough.

I figure I'm dimly aware of my own mind, and much less aware of everything else outside it.

I think Elon was also quoted as saying that if you're not adding at least 6% of your previous work back into a design, you hadn't cut enough out to figure out what was crucial.

edit:
The same thing happened to Scott Adams as happened to Philip K. Dick. PKD was taken back to Roman times; Scott back to 1776.

It was a good reframe; a spinoff of his crazy eyes references.

... which is different than the song I've been playing too much lately; Bette Davis Eyes.

SA today mentions that US news consumers prefer content that agrees with them, while consumers in Japan and Hong Kong prefer a diversity of news. His theory is that those cultures are more homogenous and in agreement, so it's the novel stuff, even if it disagrees, which is entertaining.

That's why I have a hard time listening to content that agrees with me, because it's boring. It's why I listen to SA, because I disagree or am unsure of my opinion with him often.

The interesting part today was the fact that intersectionality (identity politics) is a system that necessarily fails, because it must continuously create new arbitrary ways to divide people and set them against each other.

Then there was the fact that inward looking personality types are less happy than outward looking personality types. It's inverse to the related concept of folks with an internal locus of control being happier and more successful than those with an external locus of control. Then I was listening to Gad Saad last night, who said we tend to attribute success to ourselves, and failures to external factors as an ego preservation method... I'm getting off the topic of what SA pointed out though, that one political campaign was inwardly focused, and the other was outwardly focused, and one clearly played out better than the other.

The final point that stood out to me was the benefit of talking a bigger game than you plan to implement with regard to illegal migration.

SA topics today;

The social benefits and possible health benefits of taking "blue pill" type medication. He recommends it for men over 50.

SA chooses to believe a study suggesting Marry J reduces cognitive decline.

A poll shows the Democrat party by far favors Harris as their nominee for 2028.

Yeah, I read the rules carefully this time around (I haven't voted since 2004). You can cross out a previous selection and make a new selection.

I wrote-in for POTUS since that vote doesn't count in Oregon.

The befuddling thing to me is why everyone hates ranked-choice voting? Why would we not want a system that encourages voting for the person you want most, instead of being pigeonholed into voting for the team color that opposes the team color you hate? Of all the ways Oregon has been "progressive", they passed on that one. Even the R's passed on it; the only hope they ever had to have their team represented as governor.

I'm ready to listen to all reasons why ranked-choice is a bad idea though.

Not everyone, approximately half. In Alaska ranked choice voting repeal failed by 0.2%.

https://www.csg.org/2023/03/21/ranke...e-why-why-not/

To start with there a six different ways to do it.

Let's start with one of the 6 ways to vote better then, and see which encourages voting who you actually want the most.

Rudyard pointed out how a bad system has a fatal flaw baked into it, and I'll give the generic distillation here of his specific comment at about the 26min mark. A system based on a caste hierarchy (all social/political systems are a hierarchy) of immutable characteristics grants the elites free reign to act poorly without consequence, and the disenfranchised no reason to participate whatsoever. The tyrants will push tyranny without a limiting function, and the growing numbers of permanently lower status caste members will sabotage the system that offers no path of dignity and prosperity.

Impressive wisdom from that young fella.
