My first paid job was replacing terminals with x486 PCs running Windows NT 4.0. That coincided with my parents getting a Win95 PC and top of the consumer line of hardware. Most households didn't have a PC back then. The internet says 50% of households had at least 1 computer in 2000. Now, 96% of households have one.
