The SF bay or Sacto is a car trip, Vegas would be a flight because Southwest is there every other hour and I can walk or take the bus when I get there. Except for LAX stop overs, havent been to LA in 30 years.
My cut off is 1000 miles. More than 1000 miles and I fly. We just did 2000 miles to St. Louis, so it had to be flying.

I'd fly to Vegas because those flights are so cheap and there are direct flights from PDX. Most destinations require a layover from PDX, which doubles the probability of something going wrong.
