Interesting. That drop in mileage could be from a number of factors of course. (Do you check tire pressure for each rental?)

Remember the Canadian "50 Litre Challenge" fuel economy run? The Corolla automatic - same drivetrain as this Vibe, if I'm not mistaken - pulled good numbers:
