3) I don't do this this for financial reasons at all.
4) Big oil sucks. I don't like supporting the oil co's.
8) Efficiency = increased energy independence.
10) Conservation - for environmental or other philosophical reasons.

Up until 2000, I lived within 5 miles of work, so from my POV I was not part of "the problem". Now I live 35 miles from work, so I consider myself to be a big part of "the problem". The commute is an ethical nightmare for me, so I apply the lemon rule, aka making lemonade out of lemons, aka I made my nightmare into my hobby. Increasing my car's MPG is a way to fight back and put myself in a position to help others.
