I've been energy conscious ever since the Solar Cat books from the 1970's. Click image for larger version

Up until 2000, I lived within 5 miles of work, so from my POV I was not part of "the problem". Now I live 35 miles from work, so I consider myself to be a big part of "the problem". The commute is an ethical nightmare for me, so I apply the lemon rule, aka making lemonade out of lemons, aka I made my nightmare into my hobby. Increasing my car's MPG is a way to fight back and put myself in a position to help others.

To me, all except 7 are relevant, though their individual relevance can vary from barely to very much. Frankly I don't understand 7, so I cannot tell if it is relevant.
My simple and straight forward answer is that I find this forum friendly and so I visit it to see how other members save fuel. I do not hypermile myself but it is good to know what other people do/can do to save fuel.
Nevertheless, I drive with fuel economy in mind and visiting this forum helps. I think saving fuel is at least as addictive as driving spiritedly.

I'm intrigued. I would love to know ways to improve. I can already tell that the work I've done on my Jeep is likely to kick me out of hypermiler status. I'll get stats up soon. But for what I want the vehicle to do, I'll sacrifice. Besides, it still gets better than EPA...

And while my son hasn't given me miles and gallons, he is claiming to better me with the Neon's MPG with 36... I was getting 33, but that was also usually loaded with 2 to 4 people...

My daughter with the leadfoot is still getting 20 from her 1990 Jeep Cherokee.

Personally, I voted 2,3,5,6,8,9... I'm not hardcore so 7 didn't apply.

I'm still here because I'm a car enthusiast and I'm particularly interested in efficiency in general. I'm specifically on EM mostly because I like the group dynamic here better then other FE sites I visit.

In my case it was never about the money, but the impact on the environment is a nice byproduct of my efforts.

Can I say all except OCD?

In my opinion fuel is cheapest in my lifetime with inflation taken in to account.

I'm definatley here much less these days; putting more time in to the house these days, nothing exciting just sealing up holes, but at the moment I think the low hanging fruit is not in my tdi.

Why not? No matter what its still more money in my pocket.

If I went to a 20 mpg car paying $2 a gallon I would end up paying just as much as $4 a gallon with a 40mpg car.

Besides its funny watching all the big trucks fly around me like they own the road.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental disorder most commonly characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts resulting in compulsive behaviors and mental acts that the person feels driven to perform, according to rules that must be applied rigidly, aimed at preventing some imagined dreaded event. In severe cases, it affects a person's ability to function in every day activities. The disorder is often debilitating to the sufferer's quality of life. Also, the psychological self-awareness of the irrationality of the disorder can be painful. For people with severe OCD, it may take several hours a day to carry out the compulsive acts. ...

I first picked up my beater diesel when unleaded was ~$1.50 in CA and I was floored by the city mileage (~45mpg w/ cheaper fuel compared to ~15-20mpg w/ more expensive fuel), so until gas hits $1/gallon it'll be about cash cash money money to some extent.
