Sure to make it look clean would be nice, but its all about the best bang for the buck..
Two reasons I can think of why he chose the EG Hatch..
1. Weight
2. It's what he already had..
If memory serves me from my racing days, when we scaled a gutted down 95 hatch compaired to my buddies gutted out 93 DX coupe there was a difference of 200lbs roughly.. keep in mind the hatch was just interior stuff removed, everything else stock where the dx coupe was cf trunk lid, hood, gutted out doors, hole saw'd panels, spare tire well was torched and aluminum in its place and lexan all around except windsheild...
