Hi Gang,
Well I decided to go for a long drive over Xmas, Adelaide to Wilpena Pound and return, 910km/565mile round trip. I filled up in Adelaide on 95 Octane Ethanol added (first time I've ever filled the tank) 52Litres/13.7Gallons. As is my style I sat on 85kmh/51mph and took the most direct route, very nice road, VERY little traffic.
The trip took me just over 6 hours. When I got there the gauge showed over half a tank left I didn't quite believe it, but since I had a jerry can in the back I decided to do the return trip without refuelling. I also drove around a bit while I was there doing another 60km/37miles.
I drove back in the same Grandma style only stopping to change a tyre. I got to Clare reading 835km on the trip and the low fuel light beginning to glow angrily, so I started doing EOC to squeeze some more distance out, up till now I'd simply used a sympathetic foot easing off for minor hills etc.
I hit 880km/546miles before the engine started to miss going up a hill so I poured 2 or 3 litres in from the Jerry and got home very pleased with myself. If I'd bothered to do pulse & glide for the trip I'd say 600miles would be quite achievable.
Trip avg 5.9L/100 or 39.8mpg
