Yes, I have seen about 2-3 MPG gain from this mod, it is easily reversable, and it also aids by shortening warmup time.

As far as it being a dog when you punch it, warm air does have a lower density therefore, lower horsepower, so it's not unreasonable to see a power drop. Hope that answers your questions.
