I have no idea what the gearing in my rear differential are!

I have the most plain/stock S10 ever - 1995 2.2l 5-speed.

I am planning on swapping my engine for a 2.4l Mercedes diesel. When I do that, I will need to talk to the local hot-rod guy who knows rear axels. He should be able to help me change the gearing to take advantage of diesel's torque to maximize fuel economy.
