I wonder if there isn't another filter element that would have fit into the OEM housing?

I've had to get creative to find parts for my Corvair. By bringing the old part in and digging through boxes, I have found parts that work even though there is nothing in the parts books or cross reference books for that matter.

I'd think the OEM setup would be better in just about every way.

BTW: '65 on up Vairs had frameless windows and the spare in the engine compartment. But even further back, Microbusses had the spare in the engine compartment too. I'm sure looking even further back than that, we can find earlier examples of frameless windows and underhood spares.
