New 2010 VW Polo: lighter, safer, higher mpg (71), better looking... Coming here?

I like.

Source: The All New New Volkswagen Polo

  • weighs 7.5% less than the vehicle it replaces – despite being marginally wider and longer
  • but it's also safer
  • more efficient
  • Upcoming BlueMotion II version of this car expected to return 85 mpg (Imp) / 71 mpg (US) (UK test figures)
The 2010 BlueMotion II version will feature:
  • all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder common rail diesel
  • automatic Stop-Start
  • regenerative braking (not for hybrid propulsion, likely a "smart" alternator system)
  • gearbox with revised ratios
  • optimised aerodynamics beneath the vehicle
  • suspension lowered by 15 mm
  • low rolling resistance tyres
And I've read several articles that suggest the new version might come to North America. It would certainly sell well in Canada.
