It's shaped the way it is to fit cars which have a low front. The back has to be big enough to fit whatever fits in the rest of the trailer, because that's where the entrance is.
If it was tapered to the rear, why not just build the whole thing at that height?
Your point is well taken,and given the state-of-the-art for trailer fabrication it's delicious! My "job" is to snipe from the fringe and see if I can rattle the conventional public consciousness.------------------------------------------------ Perhaps before the Sun red-dwarfs,people will load the racecar "backwards" into a teardrop trailer,which closes over the car after it is secured.----------------------------------------------------------- By "killing" the 70% of drag behind the trailer,the racer will make the meet with more money in his or her pocket,more fuel left at the gas station behind them,no super-tankers between the gas station and the Persian Gulf,and clearer air between the bleachers and finish-line.That would be the difference.
