The short fill thing I meant was, measuring fe from such a small initial amount. For the competition, I don't see a way around that that isn't really cumbersome and time consuming and yet, I doubt that if those cars were plopped down onto the roads and driven, even with hypermiling, that they'd go the distance.

Noted, sorry for the confusion.

I agree, they'd do little more than grenade on a normal road, under less-than-optimal circumstances. It's still nice to see the engineering minds at work though, especially given the projects and given the information/knowledge that they take with them when they leave the competition.

I think that's the biggest gain, not the 3k Mile FE *mis*representation.

One reason I like the new "Urban Concept" class is that presumably some of that tech could be transferred to street use.

i was on a hybrid vehicle team in college and they required the fuel tank be removable so that it could be weighed before and after the fuel economy portion so that economy could be determined. i'd imagine they do something like that here.
