Ho, that's an old picture...

Today's odb is :

Just 5L of gasoline (1.32 gallon) So it become possible to drive 51 000 km (31690 miles) with one tank (60/5*4252km).
But winter is comming. It may be cold here, less then 0°C (32F) so I will see.
I have only 700w electric heater inside today. If needed more I have to use engine heat losts.

Used 87 Wh/km from the cells or 102 Wh/km from the plug.
I really don't know how many times I plug the car.
Most of them where in my garage, probably more then 90%.
A few at work and rarely on public charging points.

Talking 10000km, 6.2 L

Just some news.

Since last "tank filling", last year in august, drive more then 10 000 km (10038km or 6236 miles). Used 6.2 L and 1112 kWh. I didn't use the engine to heat the cabin this winter. Just two ptc heater, total 700 W only.
Electric energy consumption is now decreasing . My monthly data say +25% more in winter.

180 mpg in the forum garage.

Would be better to change engine oil, this year.

Have you considered installing seat heaters? They are much more efficient at providing warmth than heating the whole cabin, although they do nothing to defog the windshield or warm the hands. Seat heaters are relatively easy to install and consume as few as 60 watts. Just running the Prius blower motor consumes more than 60 watts!

I don't think I'll ever go without seat heaters again. Not only because of the comfort it affords, but also because of the efficiency of providing direct warmth to the body.

That's an interesting idea, low consumption, say for my passengers.

But the first problem to solve is to defog the windsheld and front windows.
The only way to do this in a Prius in winter is to use the blower. First speed is enough. And often with heated air.

Another easier way to heat the people in the car is to use an electric motorcycling vest and/or blankets. The vests will use 20-40W per person to help keep them a lot warmer.

The defroster is the main challenge, and I would suggest using a direct heating kit on the windshield - there are kits that have very narrow lines, and they would use 100-200W, I think. The rear defroster barely lowers the range, if it even shows up as a mile or so lost.

ptc heater

I have tried two devices:
- a 150W heater like this one http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/3...ooling-Fan.jpg
- a 300W heater like this http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/5...ble-b-font.jpg

I was very disappointed from the 150W. Noisy, unabble to defog.
The second was better but all the windshield was not defoged.

Finally I open both devices and re-use only their ptc heater. I removed the polen filter and placed the 2 ptc heater here:



This is the best, no noise, all the windshield and front windows defoged.
The 2 ptc heater are connected via a fuse and relay to the 12v battery, that is 14v when driving. The relays can only be energised when the blower is on.
I mesured 700W. This added to the 250-300W constant consumption (ecu, pump, blower, lights...) give 1kW. This is the maximum allowed by the dc-dc converter that provide the 14v.

I can select one (the biggest) or the 2 ptc heater. But 90% trips I use both.

The quicker driving, the colder will be the windshield. The more rain also.

more then 30 000 km in EV mode !

Still on the road.

I drived more then 30 000 km without using the gasoline engine.

So several time I saw:

Several times because there is not 6554 km, the mfd goes back to 0 km.
