Your mpg gain was probably from inflating the tires?

I get 25 mpg highway with an 86 Nissan 4x4 4 banger....19-20 mpg on trails.

Apparently the V6s (3.0L) during these years were lucky to see 17 mpg?

I have a 94 Ranger Super Cab 4x4 4.0 OHV V6 with fiberglass tonneau cover and all terrain 235/75R15 tires automatic all stock (except manual locking hubs)

I have a heavy foot and average around 20 mpg highway/city
I live in the desert at about 5000 ft elevation so anything below 2000 ft it would run more efficiently

Yea, my first Ranger was 94 regular cab 2wd 2.3L 4 banger. But just was too under powered for me and felt like I was inside a tin can. The 4x4 Supercab 4.0 is so much different in the solidness and comfort in the ride.
160 HP / 225 Torq is not bad at all. Though I wouldn't mind the HP on the newer SOHC Rangers.

Exclamation

You could just throw a bunch of tacks in the road. Probably wont drive that way anymore in fear of getting flats.
