600amp IGBT module controller

There are very inexpensive 600amp IGBT modules available used.
I've built a motor controller using them. However, i've blown up a lot of the IGBT modules from voltage spikes, which seem to occur when I accelerate heavily and then lift. This was years ago, but I'm probably going to dig out my controller and work on it again.

It would be great to have it be duplicated so others can have a cheap controller. I've seen paul's controller, but I'm wanting more power, and the IGBT's are cheaper and easier from what I can tell.

Anyone interested? Or if you have links to existing designs WITH DETAILs,
because it is the DETAILS that make the difference between blowing up the IGBTs and having them survive.

There was an article floating online from a guy who builds electric boats that uses the inverter from the honda ima system as a speed controller. Its max was 600 amps, 600 volts and worked either ac or dc 3 phase motors. I got one, but the project is on the back burner at the moment. I only paid like 100 bucks on ebay for the whole thing and they guy threw in the dc to dc converter too that provides 12 volt power to the vehicle it came from.

Feel free to share your controller design with us. I'm sure people would love it.

I do believe that a handful of people have already used Paul'l logic board with an IGBT power board though.

Has anyone actually finished one and driven a car with it? I've seen lots of posts, pictures, and circuit boards...but not any cars moving.

Any micro can do the logic, the hard part that blows things up is getting the power section right.
I want a 1000-1500 amp capability.
Using multiple $50 modules may be the way to do it.

The issue to me is that to make something that can be duplicated by others is 4x harder than just doing a one-off.

I'm building one. I plan on using 4x 300 Amp IGBT's for 1200 Amps max throughput, and software limiting to 1000A max. What's holding me back right now is copper bus bars and capacitor bank.

yeah, bauer's the only one I've seen with actual working controlller.
but his website doesn't give any details or howto's on building it,
i have no patience to wade through 100's of forum messages only to find out essentially nothing useful...

great, I'd like to see it. I've used aluminum bus bars.

Why wade through tons of stuff? Just send him a PM and ask for some info on it.
