Ah, some less "guesstimate" type numbers about the Focus Econetic's potential US MPG ratings:

Quote:

A Fiesta Econetic Ford tested using U.S. rules got a 43 m.p.g. combined city/highway rating.

Yeah... but I still want the diesel. I could leave that 43mpg in the dust.

Am I the only one that has no desire to see diesel engines in this country? Go for a 5 mile run in Barcelona in July without coughing out a lung. I dare you.

...the rumored Chrysler/Fiat 500 turbo diesel is pegged at 56 mpg (EPA) which betters the Fiestas' 43 mpg (EPA) results.

...but one has to wonder WHY Ford has its head stuck in the sand (or other southern orifice) like GM with that statement "It has no plans to introduce the sub-brand or sell the Fiesta diesel in the United States..."???

...the cost of shipping them from Australia to USA can't be THAT much, can it?

This is kind of a myth really.

I live in the UK and the city I live in (Edinburgh) is pretty much 80-90% Diesel thanks to buses, taxis and delivery vans being the only vehicles who use it regularly. Early in the mornings I see people who are into jogging and running doing the "run to work" thing every morning, no exposed lungs on view. Same for when I was in Paris, London, Amsterdam and various other places.

Some European cities (maybe Barcelona) have specific properties regarding air movement which may cause local issues with air quality. I travel to Spain regularly and being honest the air quality there is pretty much the same as most of Europe. Some cities have air quality issues naturally, such as the Asthma deaths in a coastal port town about a decade or so ago.
