I'm a huge fan of the PakTrakr gauge because it gives you a whole pile of gauge options including a bar graph showing the voltage of each battery so you can see the voltage sag as you increase the load, the gauge will also give you warnings telling you what the gauge thinks is wrong if a single battery is really acting up, if it's acting like it's low on water, over charging, or over discharging so you don't have to stair at the gauge all of the time.
However after you trouble shoot your batteries a gauge like that then works as a state of charge and a amp or kw meter, or what ever combo of gauges you want.
Most of the other gauges I've seen are either home built or costs $1,000 or more.

how's the Commuti-Car running, I what to buy one but the wife won't let me... bummer

so for now I am converting my gator to elec. Good job you and Ben did in the seminar at the MREA

My Commuti-car running great! I finished putting a solid state speed controller in it about three weeks ago after I burned up one of the contactor relays and I am very impressed with it, it was really jumpy before, should be good for another 30 years or more.
I'm still running the stock rear axle and motor and still using the stock 30 year old charger and year old batteries in the stock configuration, I recently added a tiny peltier junction dehumidifier to dry the inside of the car out and have been really pleased with it and I have a few parts on order to make a peltier junction heater/cooler.

My commuti-car has the low speed rear end in it so it tops out at about 35mph or a little faster, 25-30mph up hill is about it, range is decent tho, when they were new they said 40 miles, but I don't think I would drive it to a point that was 20 miles from home, but lucky for me I seldom need to drive that far, 10 miles from home, 20 mile round trip is pretty reasonable and with that kind of trip my batteries should last me many many years.

Ryland is right: PakTrakr is a no-muss, no-fuss gauge that's pretty good. If I had a few bucks, I'd get one.

The gauge in the video is still in the car and used regularly. It's the most important instrument in the car, particularly if (a) you're running older, saggy batteries, or (b) if you regularly draw your pack voltage down pretty low.
