Average that going both ways to account for grade and wind. Still, great number.

The Prius can get awful economy with short <5 mile round trips. It struggles to generate enough heat in the winter and warm up kills mileage. That said, mine is a plug in, so I can go entirely EV for those short trips.

It's always about steady state. Some vehicles more handicapped than others. Try my four ton pickup. To avoid stop/go I've learned to go out of route. More miles if steady state. There's a sweet spot at the trade-off.

Dump the clutch

Ecky: Inexperienced Insight drivers tend to ride/slip the clutch at gear shifts. You can not get much assist riding the clutch. To take advantage of the assist, you must floor the pedal to call for assist and dump the clutch when you shift. It takes a while to learn how much pedal/assist you require and to cease riding the clutch. Your MPG will improve with skill.

Funny that you mention that. The last 3-5k miles I've actually started intentionally riding the clutch at launch, because (at least it feels like) the clutch plate is glazed in spots and it rattles my teeth out if I let it go normally in 1st. It's probably from teaching several people to drive stick in my car.

I expect I'm going to need a clutch job at some point, but in my fairy-land fantasies, I imagine I can wear that glaze off by abusing the clutch.
