Does the solenoid operated mechanism also have to be sourced?

Yea i though just replacing same engine but wanted to run it through you guys, learn something new everyday.
The VTEC mechanism is part of the engine, it's in the head. Your wiring harness will not have the additional wiring for it.

You'll also need a wide-band O2 sensor for the Z1.

You could check RockAuto?

Seems a bit high, but it depends on the miles. I'd offer him $350-400 if it's a healthy engine. I believe the the transmission is the same in the CX and VX, so no point in swapping that.

Make sure you're not getting in over your head though. A running car is always better than a non-running car.

Good luck!

EDIT: ECU and O2 sensor with it make it on the high side of reasonable, now that I think about it. He's not likely to be able to sell them to anyone else easily as they're such niche items, but they're expensive if you need to get them separately.

I agree with your last statement, ideally i just want it to run.
Since this guy was local I was entertaining the idea of just seeing what parts are needed to see if its possible. seems like all that is left is EGR box & Wiring harness.

The guy selling the D15b8 is a few states away and not sure how I can be certain of the engine. Seems like a flip of a coin. What is usual shipping weight for these motors?

Well, the previous owner put it into my '92 egg hatch. Honestly I'd only want the 5th gear from the trans, if you decide you don't want it. As I understand it, the 5th gears are swappable for D-series compatible transmissions (HF/HX/VX/CX/DX/Si etc). Maybe a transmission shop could pull out the gears for you if you don't want to. I'm about 70% serious, depending on price.
