Aptera coastdown test: 2 miles from 60 mph (video)

The car took over 3 minutes and 2 miles to coast in neutral from 60 mph.

But it was funny to read a little mistake on their website describing the test:

Quote:
How Aptera’s Coastdown Compares

While coastdown times vary by vehicle type, most modern sedans come to a stop much faster due to their higher aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance. Aptera’s ultra-streamlined shape and lightweight build give it an exceptionally long coastdown time, reinforcing our belief that this is the most efficient passenger vehicle ever designed.
From: https://aptera.us/apteras-first-coastdown-test/

Light weight helps with overall efficiency, but it would have coasted farther if it were heavier.

A coasting competition would have a lot of dangerously overloaded cars entered! Or would anybody even enter such a contest?

Hmmm grapevine North of LA you can easily coast maybe 10 miles down hill plus another 1 or 2 down
on the flats. The issue wouldbe not going 200 mph on the bottom. Guessing the rules preclude that?

Afaik Apteras are available now, kinda, sorta.

I once coasted for the top of Siskyou Pass to the first Ashland exit. I don't know the distance but using a caliper on screen with Apple Maps it looks to be maybe 12.5 miles.
Quote:
Is Siskiyou Summit challenging?
The road includes some steep sections. Depending on which way you're headed (north or south), the summit gains or loses 2,300 feet in altitude in just six miles on its 6 percent grades. The pass contains a hazardous stretch of the road starting from Milepost 18 of northbound I-5, which has a steep slope of 6%, negotiating a height of 2,000 feet (610 m) in a short road length of 6 miles (9.7 km). The descent along this highway is considered the most dangerous, particularly on foggy nights when visibility is almost next to nothing. In spite of the hazards involved, 13,000 trucks ply this route every day.
www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/3775-siskiyou-summit.html

Six miles at 6%.

I'll try to remember to check my Insight after I replace a wheel bearing and get my summer tires on.

When I was 15, driving the family back to Oregon, doing 85 down the Grapevine, I got passed like I was standing still by a semi. I also missed the "exit" to stay on I-5 and ended up in San Francisco. Parents didn't notice until they woke up in the morning light and asked where we were.

Driving home from Bonneville Salt Flats, I got lost in the middle of the night and ended up in California. That's when I overnighted at the summit of Donner Pass and coasted down into Ashland.
