How cute! They used electric motors to replicate what the original 917 and one of the 908s did with linkages from the wings to the suspension.

Epcot Car
Circa 1984,at GM's exhibit at Epcot Center,Orlando,Florida, they had a concept car which had an active diffuser which would lower to near-horizontal at a pre-programmed velocity, presumably when you were on the highway and ground clearance wasn't as much an issue.
This diffuser was designed specifically for improved MPG and they included an animation depicting the improved airflow.

Thanks! The Citroen C Sportlounge is exactly the car that I saw! Actually I didn't remember that it was only a concept. Now I'll read the articles the links you posted.
Grazie mille, fabrio... non mi sarebbe mai venuta in mente

I actually like the Citroen C Sportlounge, except for the name.
Also Pagani Huayra have active air control flaps front and rear. by Jay Leno at 3:25->3:32 and 4:57->5:08.

Either to accelerate the air going out the back, providing down-force, or just for looks.

I thought it was a reasonable question. This suggests a diffuser would increase the drag on an hatchback:
But, yeah, I meant 'see' as in

It doesn't help with aerodynamics. You won't see higher mpg or cornering speed.
