Again:

Aluminum doesnt burn, it melts. Ditto for steel which may experience a heat transfer to something flammable if it has enough surface to oxidise that rapidly.

Your point as contrary to your previous statements:

I will only concede, plain Aluminum does likely melt before it burns.
I am puzzled by what real world experience you have in fires that involve aluminum and have not seen the near total consumption of said aluminum.
Please share if you could, and research the main component of the Space shuttles SRB fuel source when you get a chance concerning aluminum burning.

Guess we can trade pics all day of consumed and melted alum.
And I do have personal experience with aluminum Semi catastrophic fires.


"The propellant mixture in each SRB motor consists of an ammonium perchlorate (oxidizer, 69.6 percent by weight), aluminum (fuel, 16 percent), iron oxide (a catalyst, 0.4 percent), a polymer (a binder that holds the mixture together, 12.04 percent), and an epoxy curing agent (1.96 percent)."

A NASA engineer happened across a rare, color photo of the Hindenburg disaster at Lakehurst, N.J. He immediately recognized that the 'color' of the flames could not be associated with 'hydrogen.' He was able to obtain a very small sample of the Hindenburg's outer envelope, and learned that the outer surface was coated with nitrocellulose ( gun cotton ) dope containing aluminum powder ( as a UV protectant ). 'Rocket fuel'.
He was able to introduce an artificial static discharge, which ignited the cloth, with intense flame spread.

The outer skin was rocket fuel; the gas bags were cow guts (goldbeater's skin).

Worked EDW rocket site 1C15 both times after both of the incidents involving the shuttle boosters. We asked the scientist involved in the formulation of the fuel about the components and, suprise, he answered in plain english. Fuel flame rate retarder, no significant thrust increase.
