I work outside all day in az, most of the time on a 200 foot transmission tower, or just 65 feet on a wood pole if I get lucky. I've lived here for 30 years didnt get a car with a/c until I was 25. BTW its still mid 90's at night during the summer, and I still work then too if the lights go out, I turn your power back on. Dont see anything "whiney" about wanting a/c in Az. FE isnt on my my mind when I worked 15 hours straight to get the lights back on, when I can I EOC, drive with the MPGuino to get better mileage. Maybe I dont belong here but I enjoyed learning from all the people on this site that have led the way to be less oil dependent.

I'm just sayin a car isn't stupid just cuz it doesn't have AC is all, regardless where you find it. If it needs a rebuild every 50k, then I would call it stupid

Not sure where ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha is, not a military guy, but here if you have a decent job the a/c comes on at 95 or so. When I was a youngster I didnt care, I have income now and get pretty good mileage most of the time. A smart car without a/c in AZ is not gonna sell, thats why I called it stupid. If it was 1500 bucks it would sell here. I hope the 50k jab wasnt at my vee dub! I've had it for 5 years and about 4k miles later it might need an engine, first place at bug-o-rama this year was worth a new motor.

And I should probably temper it with "It depends how hard/costly it is to rebuild", i.e. a one cylinder motorcycle engine might not last a real long time but can be pretty easy to rebuild.

re ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha (and Don't Panic) are Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy references, funny stuff! A 5 book trilogy by the late (as in deceased) Douglas Adams.

re 1500: I like the bugs, got married in a 1300 convertible (well, drove off in one anyway). Had a few Type 3s too.

Also liking the stick Fiero, looks like you have the epa whipped there , had a 2m6 for a while myself (I'm sort of a car ***** )

How about a Rabbit or Golf diesel? Does anyone know of one of those for sale in the general Baltimore metro area?

rdorrett, I've found the diesel VW's on EBay quite often. They are a little rarer because, as told to me by a VW dealer, VW didn't offer any diesels in the US for about 3 years during the 90's.

VW diesel question

Thank you very much for this info. I'd recently found a vehicle on Craig's List, but someone else got it...

Well DCB the 1500s is a type 3, notchback to be exact, factory dual carbs, domed pistons, hi po for VW at the time. Still gets 28mpg just like factory specs! Leaks like a sieve though...

You'll be happy to hear its been in the mid 90's this week and i have refused to run the A/C in the fiero, don't want to ruin my tank mpg! At 32.4 and have a quarter tank left.

If you do a search on the TDI page, someone has a listing of all TDI's being offer on Craigslist throughout the country on a daily basis. Pretty cool!

I came a cross a Smart with some sort of backpack added to the rear today.

It's probably being used for storage, but it might as well be improving the car's FE at the same time
